Step Up to Net Zero Coordinator 

Location: 6 Hazel Avenue, Glasgow G44 3LJ

Duration: 16 weeks

Hours per week: 24 hours per week

Pay: £14.50 per hour (full-time equivalent of a £27,500 salary)

Start date: As soon as possible

 

ELIGIBILITY:

• The programme is open to people of any age however, due to the nature of the work involved, we recommend that you are 21+ and have some experience of the work environment.

• You must have a Glasgow City Council postcode.

• You must not currently be in full-time education.

• You must be able to commit between 16-25 hours per week to the role.

• Closing date: 15th November 2022 (Applications are welcome before this date and interviews will be held on an ongoing basis therefore, the post may be filled before the closing date).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Your role as a placement participant will be to support Kabloom in implementing the Action Plan, progressing activity that supports the organisation to adopt more circular principles, improve current sustainability practices and reduce their carbon footprint.

The successful participant will be upskilled/reskilled on the net-zero and circular economy agenda throughout their placement and will gain real industry insights and experience. They will also be provided with external mentoring support and industry-specific training opportunities during their placement. At the end of the funded placement, Kabloom may choose to retain the participant as an employee. Alternatively, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce would support the participant in their path to further employment.

Glasgow’s business community has a significant role to play in supporting the city’s ambitions to become net zero carbon by 2030, and a circular city by 2045. The Step Up to Net Zero project has been designed to address several key priorities for Glasgow City Council including supporting a just transition as well as encouraging and enabling the business community to take action towards becoming more sustainable and circular.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The recommendations set out in each business’s Action Plan are specific to the individual organisation, and therefore your responsibilities will vary according to the business you are placed with. Examples of responsibilities could include:

• Increasing customer awareness of Kabloom’s circular activities and discussing options for collaboration.
• Reviewing Kabloom’s procurement processes to identify circular opportunities.
• Reviewing Kabloom’s supply chain and evaluating the carbon offsetting & carbon capture of their products.
• Identifying opportunities to use waste as a resource or extending the lifespan of resources.
• Calculating Kabloom’s carbon footprint and identifying opportunities to reduce carbon emissions.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Able to work under own initiative and manage own workload
• Able to undertake research analytically
• Good communication skills including written and verbal
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
• Able to fit in with Kabloom’s culture and ethos
• Knowledge of communications, marketing and how they can be utilised effectively in a business is desirable but not essential

• Maintain high levels of time management
• Communicate clearly with colleagues
• Be prepared to react to all reasonable ad hoc duties
• Carry out the role in a professional and approachable manner
