Spilling the tea on plastic free
15th June 2018
More and more, we are seeing supermarkets, brands and companies doing their bit to reduce the amount of plastic their products contain – which is great! We’re super happy to see big corporations are finally taking note that plastic is not the answer. Here at Kabloom HQ, we are avid tea drinkers (the word copious doesn’t even cover the quantity that we consume…) so we thought we’d do a case study and team up with our friends at teapigs who are already paving the way to a happier, plastic free future!
Why talk of tea? Well we all know about all the products we use day to day that obviously contain plastic; but what about the less obvious? Did you know that many teabags contain plastic? …. Shock horror!
Back in 2006, we saw the quality tea company, teapigs, make waves with their biodegradable temple. Since then, they have been leading the way by creating a fun, eco-friendly and tasty product (sounds a lot like Kabloom, eh? Well, just don’t eat the Seedboms…probably not as tasty as their tea) We’re firm believers here that we should be practicing what we preach and to find a company that can sort us out with our caffeine fix whilst being one of the most greenest tea companies out there is a solid 10/10 for us!
Kabloom and teapigs most definitely have a lot of values in common and recently we both went through the process of researching and refining our current packaging. In February, teapigs embarked on a journey to find a plastic-free packaging to keep their tea temples fresh and found an amazing alternative called ‘Natureflex’ which is both biodegradable and compostable. This is definitely a game changer for them and it just shows with some research and the will to change – you can find some genius ways eradicate plastic from your products! Find out more here
For us, our Seedbom’s have never contained plastic (that would definitely defeat the object, haha!) but we’re always keen and on the lookout to improve our product which has lead us to the relaunch of the Seedbom! Our new bom’s not only have a sleeker and more defined look, but they are now made from an great new material called PaperFoam. Containing just four materials (starch, natural fibres, water and premix) our boms degrade in just five weeks leaving behind just the making’s for a brand new patch of beautiful wild flowers. More on this in our previous blog post here
