Our new super biobased shell design is here!

You may have noticed we’ve been making some big changes recently. For the whole beginning of this year our webshop was closed as our Seedboms underwent a bit of a makeover.

Why the change?

Our Seedbom shells used to made from paper pulp and that worked fine for a while. However it did have it’s issues, we just couldn’t get the quality required and in the end it just didn’t make the grade. With the rise of new biodegradable materials entering the market, as designers were keen to push the Seedbom design forward, to keep innovating and make it even better and even more eco-friendly than before!

So what is this new design?

Our new Seedbom shell is made from PaperFoam, an innovative biobased, renewable material produced in the Netherlands (it doesn’t exist in the UK….yet!) with an extremely low carbon footprint. It’s essentially a friendly alternative to most packaging materials, such as styrofoam, with similar qualities and a high finish, without the nasty chemicals.

What’s great about it?

Apart from the fact they look so much better (if we do say so ourselves!) Paperfoam is super environment-friendly throughout its lifecycle. The ingredients – industrial starch, fibers and water – are biobased and renewable. Production is energy-efficient and low-carbon. What’s so great is that it’s totally compostable. Nature itself helps break down the material in a matter of weeks, it’s pollution-free with no harmful leftovers!

Our new shells will biodegrade 4 x faster than paper pulp and produce 25 x less CO2 emissions!
