time for a change
We’re on the search for some new Seedbom packaging illustration! #designbom
We’ve decided that our Featherbom packaging design is due an upgrade and we’d love for one of you talented bunch to come up with something new to be printed on the Seedbom sleeve.
background
To give you a little background to the Featherbom; it contains seeds to attract butterflies and bees during the summer and produce grains and seeds for birds during the cold winter months. It’s been one of our consistent sellers since 2015 and is one of the boms that make up our popular Birds, Bees & Butterflies gift set.
THE CURRENT DESIGN
This is what the Featherbom currently looks like – – ->
As you can see it’s lovely but we feel it needs a refresh as the Seedbom brand grows and evolves.
In this version the colours are a little muted and it’s not super clear what the product is as the text get’s a little lost.
With recent changes in the Seedbom brand, the font and logo placement also needs adjusting to fit alongside our other boms.
What we’re after…
We are looking for something new! A design that catches our eye and one we feel will slot in alongside the rest of our range with ease.
We are always adding to and updating our range. Partly out of a creative need, partly out of boredom but mainly to keep things fresh and keep our customer base interested in what we do. We are also looking at things from a retail angle i.e. what’s going to sell in shops. Nobody wants to think about these things necessarily from a creative point of view but the truth is the product has to appeal to buyers and a stand out packaging design goes a long way!
Truth is people judge a Seedbom by its packaging design first and it’s contents second (in most cases). What catches our eye inevitably leads to interest and the want to find out more, hey we’re only human!
No pressure 😉
The challenge
For the new design we would like to see:
- Relevance – It must be bird related and work within the rest of our current range. We have a diverse range of customers from all ages to nationalities so it must also be easily recognisable.
- Flexibility – The design should work hand in hand with the packaging design but also allow for a bit of flexibility. We may need to use the design for other things (with your permission of course).
- Simplicity – The design mustn’t be too complex, simple patterns and stand out graphics work best. There is limited space on the packaging as well as a text hierarchy so if things get too fussy customers will simply switch off!
- Creativity – This is a no brainer, we’d like to see something exciting and new! If the illustration looks to similar to other things out there then we won’t stand out.

DESIGN SPECS
You’ll need to have access to Photoshop or an equivalent programme to open the .PSD templates.
Below you will find our Photoshop templates ready for download. Please use the templates to visualise your design on the Seedbom packaging. This does not mean your artwork has to be confined to Photoshop, you may prefer to work in Illustrator or a similar application. However for the purposes for visualisation and final submission these templates will act as a handy guide.
Your original image files must be at least 300dpi and final artwork size should be a minimum of 65mm x 125mm in scale. However feel free to create something a little larger and spill over the edges to create something that allows for flexibility. The last thing we want is to reject the work based on a little placement technicality. We will work with the chosen winner to work out all the placement details for the final packaging design.
Please note these templates are a guide only and your artwork may be adjusted to work within the final print file.
These are the design templates. Here you will find a minimum artwork size artboard, a flatlay packaging artboard and a product visualisation artboard. Use these as a guide to visualise your artwork on the Seedbom packaging template. Simply drag your artwork onto desired artboard to create a new layer and move to fit where you want it. Make sure to put your new layer at the back either by dragging down to the bottom layer or going into Layer – Arrange – Send to back. Oh and remember to save your work! We’ll need to see this later should you be successful.
This is the final submission template. Once you are happy with your final design save this file as a jpeg and upload to Instagram. Remember to tag us @seedbom and use the hashtag #designbom somewhere in the post text, this is super important as without this we won’t see it!
Feel free to submit more than one entry. Also if you feel your entry would benefit from simply showing your artwork on its own in square (instagram-able) format then f submit that too! As long as we can view your main submission we’re happy to see more.
