The Helix is an extensive ongoing project that will transform under-used land between Falkirk and Grangemouth, Scotland into a thriving urban greenspace covering some 300 hectares. The blog is the thing it seems these days and we have been fortunate enough to be featured on a number of great blog sites in our time. They are a great way to get known in the right places and is a fantastically informal media for features, news and collaboration that also promotes discussion in real time. Unfortunatly we can’t list them all (not bragging…really!) so just thought we’d mention a couple of recent ones you may or may not be aware of.

Most recently seedboms were featured on Gwyneth Paltrow’s very own blog newsletter GOOP……………Whoop Whoop!  Thanks for that Gwyneth!

GOOP is a nicely put together site with some great features, links and general day to day things that Gwyneth sees and likes to share with us.

We were also recently featured on NOTCOT the fantascially up to the minute network of sites with a passion for all things design.

NOTCOT have also cleverly been tracking the progress of their very own growing seedboms through their LIFE! pages, a series of photos of everyday things using mobile phone pics. Click the pictures to go to sites, sure there will be futher updates as their seedboms grow.

Some of our other favourites that have featured seedboms (again, not bragging!…..well maybe just a little) include extensively knowledgeable sites such as Inhabitat and Treehugger.

May 1st saw the 5th International Sunflower Guerrilla Gardening Day and it was on a sun-day this year! Folks from all over the world got digging with trowels in one hand and sunflowers in the other.

This year we decided to clean up and plant sunflowers in some abandoned planters near our studios. We also thought we’d try something new and distribute and deploy a bunch of Sunflower Seedboms around our local area, the idea being that anyone passing by our hanging seedboms (complete with info tag) could simply pick one up, find a spot in need of some sunflower beautification and have a go for free!

International Sunflower Guerrilla Gardening Day is a great event that anyone can get involved in every year, so if you missed it no worries, just make sure it’s in your diary for next year! You can find out more about the day at Guerrilla Gardening.org and the ISGGD Facebook page where you can also upload photos and see what everyone got up to all over the world.

Seedboms are now available in Selfridges (Oxford St, London) as part of their new concept store GROW! demonstrating how even the most unexpected of environments can be perfect for gardening, and even those surrounded by concrete can still get creative with their green-fingers. GROW! will run throughout April and will showcase innovative ‘underground’ gardening products and techniques.

As well as supplying our standard 4 pack seedboms we are also showcasing our new individually tagged single seedboms! available exclusivly at the GROW! concept store for a limited period. Our Sunflower Incredible and Cornfield Annual boms are sure to do the trick brightening up some of those dull London streets!

If you manage to visit the GROW! concept store not only will you find our new single seedboms you will also find a limited edition set of display items produced exclusively for Selfridges. Including a seedbom display box and a lenticular photo stand that simply and cleverly shows the ‘before’ and ‘after’ effects of a seedbom growing as you walk by.

In collaboration with Selfridges and GuerrillaGardening.org we present the Seedbom Wonder Window! One of 5 Wonder Windows curated by Richard Reynolds of Guerrilla Gardening.org in Selfridges, Oxford St & Orchard St, London. The seedbom window was created to promote the launch of Selfridges concept store GROW! a showcase of urban gardening open throughout April 2011 (more on this soon!)

Richard Reynolds describes the windows as ‘a showcase of ingenious guerrilla gardening ‘weaponry’ made by guerrilla gardeners from around the world. There are also pictures of guerrilla grown sunflowers around London as beautiful inspiration. The contents are intentionally eye catching, fun and a bit provocative, far from what you’d expect to see in a typical department store window.‘

Spring is almost here and its Sunflower shaped. Our first growth of 2011 has come a little earlier than usual in the form of a Sunflower Incredible (Helianthus annuus). It’s getting close to that time when seedboms can be primed for action and put to use brightening up dull and lifeless places. Watch this space for more growing seedboms over the following weeks.
